Biblical rain caused play to be abandoned in Taunton - the second ODI between England and Pakistan - ending with no result. 6.5 overs of cricket were managed with Pakistan 29/0 as the first shower started over the ground.
Persistent rain let to the game being called off at the 3pm pitch inspection, the sides sharing the points. Heather Knight spoke following the washout.
A number of changes were made to England’s XI with Lauren Bell and Sarah Glenn not playing. Knight confirmed that Bell was being rested and Glenn was carrying a slight back niggle.
“I think the little we did out there, I think we performed really well,” Knight said. “I think obviously as a bowling unit, the girls were quite disappointed with the other day. It was a little bit scrappy, not quite up to our best.”
England didn’t manage to take any wickets in the few overs they played however there were signs of promise from 2023 breakthrough, Lauren Filer.
“I thought the control that Kate [Cross] showed and then Lauren [Filer] at the other end made things happen and felt like there's a lot going on, a few chances,” Knight explained.
“Obviously the weather intervened as we thought it might do, which is a shame. It's a lovely place to play cricket, a home ground for me - bit of a shame, but grateful the people that came,” she added.
South East Stars batter, Sophia Dunkley, who had been dropped for the series was a part of the match day squad having come in for “a little bit of cover”.
“We obviously only picked 13, so quite a small squad size,” Knight said. “We wanted those girls to be playing cricket and obviously she’s been performing really well in domestic cricket as well.”
England will play their final ODI against Pakistan in Chelmsford next week.
