India U19s v UAE U19s: Group Game 2 Match Report

India made their statement as competitors in this tournament against the UAE, scoring 219 the highest total of the tournament so far.

Captain Shafali Verma top scored with 78 (34)

Delhi’s Shweta Sehrawat continued her outstanding form, striking 74* from 49 deliveries but it was captain and the senior capped, Shafali Verma who top scored with 78 from 34 balls. Wicket-keeper, Richa Ghosh fell short of a half-century as she attempted to ramp Mahika Gaur but was caught by fellow keeper, Theertha Satish. A quick innings of 11 from 5 deliveries by Gongadi Trisha helped India to fly past the 200 mark, finishing on 219/3.

The UAE did not look phased by this as Chennai-born Theertha Satish accumulated 16 runs from only 5 deliveries. After scoring 17 from their first over, the UAE’s hopes of success were dampened as they struggled against the bowling of Titas Sadhu. Samaira Dharnidharka and Rinitha Rajith fell for single figures thanks to Ghosh’s work behind the sumps but, the experienced Mahika Gaur steadied the ship as she scored 26 at a run a ball before she was run out in a team effort by Sonia Mehdiya and Gongadi Trisha. Opener, Lavanya Keny remained at the crease until final over but only managed to score 24 from 54 balls, being stumped off the bowling of leg-spinner, Parshavi Chopra. The UAE’s innings concluded on 97, India securing a 122 run win, placing them comfortably at the top of Group D.

India will play their next game of the tournament against Scotland on Wednesday 18 January at 11:45am (GMT) at Willowmoore Park B Field, Benoni and UAE will play their next game against hosts, South Africa on Wednesday 18 January at 11:45am (GMT) at Willowmoore Park, Benoni
