England’s last warm up game before their first fixture of the tournament was against Indonesia at Tuks Oval, Pretoria. Indonesia elected to bat first but it was initially agreed that all 20 overs would be played, regardless of wickets lost to give the teams the best opportunity to prepare for the tournament.
Central Sparks’ Ellie Anderson and Northern Diamond, Emma Marlow came into the side, opening the bowling with Marlow picking up the first wicket in her first over. Ryana MacDonald-Gay was the top wicket taker for England, dismissing Indriyani and Pratiwi in the 10th and 18th over respectively. Consistent left-arm spinner, Sophia Smale came out on top with an economy of 0.0 from her two overs where she bowled Wulandari. Smale was also involved with the run out of Suarniasih assisted by wicket keeper Seren Smale to reduce Indonesia to 28–7. England restricted Indonesia to 45/9 setting them 46 to win.
Captain Grace Scivens opened the batting alongside, Western Storm all-rounder, Niamh Holland whose partnership successfully managed to chase down the total within the 6th over. As planned, England continued to bat. Scrivens (53*) and Holland (42*) retired at the end of the 10th over bringing in Central Sparks duo, Charis Pavely and Davina Perrin with the score 101–0.
England’s first wicket fell as Pavely was run out bringing Ryana MacDonald-Gay to the crease. MacDonald-Gay struck an impressive 24* from 11 deliveries before retiring to give the Blaze’s Josie Groves time out in the middle. Groves was dismissed by Ariani for 6 and after 14.4 overs, the game was concluded with Perrin finishing 6*. England hit 139/2 from their 14.4 overs with skipper, Grace Scrivens top scoring with 53* from 29 deliveries.
England will play their first game of the tournament against Zimbabwe on Sunday 15th January at 8am (GMT) at JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom
