Hundred 2022: Squads

Today saw the announcement of a large amount of signings for the 2022 season of the Hundred. A few weeks ago, there was the much anticipated announcement of the retained players for the 2022 season and following that, there was much speculation about who would sign for who. My thoughts from that can be found here: https://medium.com/@polly.starkie/the-hundred-2022-the-retained-players-60cabc371a98

Firstly, London Spirit. There were some big overseas signings for London Spirit. New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr, Aussie pace bowler Megan Schutt and remarkable Aussie batter Beth Mooney. Former Welsh Fire captain, Sophie Luff also moved to London Spirit. These additions will be vital for London Spirit after their somewhat unsuccessful season last year. Kerr will be one of only a few New Zealand internationals in the tournament.

Huge news came from Welsh Fire, with the overseas announcements of Aussies Rachael Haynes and Annabel Sutherland who have just lifted the World Cup trophy. Tammy Beaumont has taken on the captaincy, moving from London Spirit and Alex Hartley (prev. Manchester Originals), Fran Wilson (prev. Oval Invincibles), Fi Morris (prev. Southern Brave) and Sarah Bryce (prev. Oval Invincibles) all signing. Welsh Fire were desperate for some big names after a disappointing season due to some last minute dropping out due to Covid-19.

There was less news at Northern Superchargers as their overseas spots were already filled and they retained many players however Lucy Higham joined from Trent Rockets and Jenny Gunn signed after being on the coaching team last season. This will be her 22nd season of domestic cricket and her great expertise and both domestic and international level will be valuable.

More big news at Manchester Originals with overseas signings of Zew Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite and West Indies’ Deandra Dottin who will both be key to high totals for the Originals. Batter Ami Campbell and bowler Phoebe Graham join from Northern Superchargers and Grace Potts also joins, making her debut team.

Mega signings for Trent Rockets with World Cup superstars Aussie captain Meg Lanning and leg spinner Alana King. South Africa’s Mignon Du Preez moves from Manchester Originals and Bryony Smith (prev. Welsh Fire), Marie Kelly (prev. Birmingham Phoenix) and Sophie Munro (prev. London Spirit) join the Rockets. Georgia Davis and Alexa Stonehouse also join their debut team.

Lauren Winfield-Hill joins the Oval Invincibles from Northern Superchargers with the additions of locals Kira Chathli, Aylish Cranstone and Eve Gray. Moving from Trent Rockets, Emily Windsor joins the defending champions.

Birmingham Phoenix sign Aussie Sophie Molineux to complete their overseas signings and also sign Sterre Kalis from Northern Superchargers.

Southern Brave sign the mighty Australian all-rounder Tahlia McGrath and also sign Georgia Adams and Jo Gardener from Oval Invincibles. Freya Kemp and Ella McCaughan also join Southern Brave.

Over the next few months, deals will be being made and the remaining places will be filled up until June. The Overseas Wildcard round will take place in June and then we will be tournament ready.
