Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Round 10: Preview

With four games on Saturday and one on Monday, there’s five Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy matches before the regional season pauses for the third edition of The Hundred. The table is starting to move around and with only a few games after the break, wins will be highly sought after this weekend.

Central Sparks should register another easy win over the Sunrisers. Unfortunately, the Sunrisers have become the side which teams – unless you’re the Southern Vipers – look to gain bonus points from given their poor run.

Sparks are only getting stronger so a win would me a major success for the Sunrisers. Of course, it is not impossible for the visitors but it’s a big task.

South East Stars v Western Storm

County Ground, Beckenham

Western Storm have been winless since the break and have only gained points from the few washed out games they’ve been a part of. South East Stars on the other hand have bounced back from a shaky start and look confident once again.

The teams are 14 points apart in the table so there’s a clear gap between the sides. It’s Stars’ game to lose but the Storm will be looking to bounce back.

Southern Vipers v Northern Diamonds

Arundel Castel, Arundel

Saturday 22nd July 10.30am

Sitting in an unprecedented 5th place, the Vipers haven’t had the run they would have wanted over the tournament. They returned to winning ways last week but they don’t look like the clinical product that’s been on display in the past few seasons.

Northern Diamonds are also in a difficult position. After losing three matches on the bounce, they’ve dropped to 4th place. As defending champions, knockout stages will be a minimum expectation so a win here will be essential.

Thunder v The Blaze

Sedbergh School, Sedbergh

Thunder is in 6th place with knockout stage chances looking slim. They’ve also been unlucky with abandoned games but, they’re facing The Blaze whilst they’re down. The Blaze lost their first Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy game last week, an unexpected thrashing against the South East Stars.

This could be Thunder’s chance to enjoy success against one of the most dominant teams in the tournament.

Western Storm v Sunrisers

College Ground, Cheltenham

Monday 24th July 10.30am

As the bottom two teams, this should be one of the closest games across the weekend. Western Storm desperately need a win while similarly the Sunrisers will be keen for another win after doing the double over the Vipers.

It’s unknown whether Storm’s Lauren Filer and Dani Gibson will be back. If they are, Western Storm will have the odds in their favour.
