Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Round 6: Preview

After a three-week break, women’s domestic cricket returns and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy continues. The Blaze are sitting top of the table – unbeaten in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy so far. South East Stars and Northern Diamonds follow but Sunrisers, Thunder and Western Storm are all struggling.

When the teams faced each other earlier in the season, it ended in a thrilling tie at Old Trafford. Thunder have been unlucky and have had a few games called off due to rain in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. However, in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, they made final day which took place at Worcester.

Central Sparks had a poor run in the Charlotte Edwards Cup but have managed to puck up 11 points so far in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. With the absence of some of Thunder’s key players due to England duty, the favour would be with Sparks.

As neighbours in the table, the clash between South East Stars and Northern Diamonds could be important in deciding the final standings. Northern Diamonds struggled for wins in the Charlotte Edwards Cup but have plenty of young talent coming through to the senior team who are unknown to opponents.

South East Stars are also a strong side but again are missing key players due to England and England A duties including Paige Scholfield, Sophia Dunkley and Alice Davidson-Richards. Northern Diamonds have the upper hand given the Stars’ weaker squad.

Sunrisers v Southern Vipers

Well nobody would have predicted that Sunrisers would have thrashed the Southern Vipers on the opening day of the season! As it stands, that is Sunrisers’ only win all summer and it’s hard to see where Sunrisers could find a win.

The Vipers are stacked will talent are after winning the Charlotte Edwards Cup will be even keener to do the double and win the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Western Storm v The Blaze

Seat Unique Stadium, Bristol

The Blaze are unbeaten in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. They suffered their first loss in the Charlotte Edwards Cup final, but they are still a very strong side. Western Storm haven’t had great performances recently, but Lauren Filer returns after a successful stint with England, making her debut in the Test match.

Like many teams, The Blaze are missing important players but would seem to still be the better side.
