Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Round 8: Preview

The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy continues with Round 8 taking place all across the country. A first Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy game will be on the Isle of Wight while Sparks will play for the first time at Moseley Cricket Club – deceptively in Solihull!

Northern Diamonds v Thunder

Anything can go down in a Northern derby! The war of the roses continues as Northern Diamonds will host Thunder in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. On the whole, Diamonds have outperformed Thunder in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy however, they suffered a harsh defeat last week.

The Diamonds will be keen to bounce back after their poor performance last week. Added to that is the fact that Thunder enjoyed a victory over the Diamonds in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, earlier in the season.

Thunder’s Emma Lamb and Northern Diamonds’ Lauren Winfield-Hill have not been included in England’s ODI squad meaning that the players should be available for the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

South East Stars v Sunrisers

County Ground, Beckenham

South East Stars have had a poor return to the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, having not yet won a game. Sunrisers once again registered a win over the Southern Vipers but elsewhere have looked weak.

The Stars will need to start finding wins if they are looking to qualify for final day at the end of the season. Stars will be the much stronger side and have the advantage heading into the game.

Southern Vipers v The Blaze

Newclose County Cricket Ground, Newport, the Isle of Wight

The Southern Vipers will head to the Isle of Wight for the first time as they face the unbeaten Blaze in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. The Vipers have had a tough few weeks with a loss to the Sunrisers and a draw up north against Thunder.

The Blaze, however, are just going from strength to strength. But, they will miss star batter, Tammy Beaumont who has been included in England’s ODI squad. The Blaze do have depth and so still stand a strong chance.

Central Sparks v Western Storm

Moseley Cricket Club, Shirley

Central Sparks have found two comfortable wins in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy after the break. Western Storm have lost their last few games and sit at the bottom end of the table.

Sparks’ squad has stayed consistent with Amy Jones and Issy Wong regularly missing for England duty. However, the Storm have missed recent international debutants, Dani Gibson and Lauren Filer who have featured throughout the Ashes.
