The Blaze beat the South East Stars by 8 wickets to secure a place in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Final.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the South East Stars saw themselves bowled out for a below par 148. Coming in at number ten, Ryana MacDonald-Gay top scored with a steady 26 from 48 balls. Despite their star-studded batting line up, The Blaze’s bowling proved too challenging.
Marie Kelly, Lucy Higham, Kathryn Bryce and Kirstie Gordon all remained cheap, additionally taking two wickets apiece. Seamer, Grace Ballinger and leggie, Josie Groves also contributed a wicket each – including opener Kira Chathli and key batter, Alice Capsey.
With The Blaze 15/1, the match was delayed due to rain. After hours of rain play finally was able to get back underway with a revised total set. The Blaze required 37 runs from 40 balls and with nine wickets in hand, it seemed a simple task.
Sarah Bryce smashed a six to end the game for her side, The Blaze progressing to this weekend’s final against the Southern Vipers. Bryce ended on 34 from 26 runs including three fours and the victorious six.
