From huge margins to fine lines there was an array of results in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in the first round after the Hundred. Hollie Armitage scored a century while a number of young bowlers impressed for their respective sides.
The Blaze Fire Ahead
It wasn’t the ideal innings for the Central Sparks, ending 189 all out after falling to 3/38 early on. Bethan Ellis and Katie Georgie both scored half centuries, providing some optimism for the hosts but Josie Groves impressed with the spin, finishing with 3/39. The bowling contributions were spread across the board as Kathryn Bryce and Grace Ballinger registered two each.
The game seemed to head in one direction with Lizelle lee and Tammy Beaumont opening the batting, putting on a 61-run partnership. Wickets started to fall, however, as the Blaze fell from 2/73 to 6/91.
Nat Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings, scoring 63* to take the Blaze to another victory with plenty of balls to spare.
Diamonds' Despair
The in-form Georgia Adams aided the Southern Vipers to 245/8 as she went on to score a steady 82 from 98 balls. Ella McCaughan fell short of another half century while Emily Windsor contributed 39 at a run a ball.
Young seamers, Lizzie Scott and Grace Hall proved vital taking seven wickets between them – Phoebe Turner with the crucial breakthrough, dismissing Adams in the 37th over.
With 16 runs from the final two overs and Hollie Armitage on 100*, it was the Diamonds' opportunity to do what seemed initially impossible. With five required from the final ball, the Diamonds just missed on the win with Georgia Elwiss bowling clinically at the death.
The Scrivens Era
Newly appointed, captain Scrivens, guided the Sunrisers to a comfortable four wicket victory over the Western Storm.
Bowling the Western Storm out for a mere 143, Jodi Grewcock and Kate Coppack leading with three wickets each. The new skipper, Grace Scrivens, also stood out with the ball, taking one wicket but finishing with an economy of 1.90.
The batting was spread out across the side but they enjoyed a comfortable win in the 34th over.
Thunder Arrives
In similar fashion to that of the Western Storm, the South East Stars were all out for 145. The Stars were mystified by the spin of Fi Morris and Liv Bell who took three and four wickets respectively. On return from a loan to Western Storm, Phoebe Graham registered two crucial wickets at the top of the order.
Thunder placed themselves in prime position to sail to victory with opener, Emma Lamb scoring a half century. The visitors secured a quick victory with almost half the overs remaining and Ellie Threlkeld and new recruit, Laura Delany saw Thunder over the line.
