The Sunrisers continue to baffle women’s cricket spectators as they truly are on the rise – Netflix get on board! The Northern Derby could have been a real thriller and the Southern Derby seemed to have a similar tone. The Western Storm – as predicted – have continued to struggle and are firmly number eight in the table.
The Vipers Bite Back
The Vipers always seem to find a way to win and despite not seeing out their 50 overs and ending the innings 254 all out, the side still enjoyed a 58-run victory. Linsey Smith top scored with a half century but Georgia Adams and Ella McCaughan also came close to the milestone. Leggie, Danielle Gregory stunned with 4/55 and Paige Scholfield took two herself.
The Stars were weak in response with only Aylish Cranstone making any significant runs, out on 69. The wickets were spread out between the Vipers, Linsey Smith with three and Georgia Adams, Ava Lee and Alice Monaghan taking two apiece.
The Sun has Truly Risen!
The new era of the Sunrisers was apparent once again as Sunrisers managed to beat table toppers, The Blaze by 30 runs. Captain Grace Scrivens and recent debutant Ariana Dowse enjoyed centuries, holding the second biggest partnership in the history of the competition to help the Sunrisers to 295/5.
Despite Georgie Boyce’s impressive century, the Blaze were all out for 265, mainly thanks to Eva Gray’s 4/31.
The North is Blue
The North is blue as the Northern Diamonds sealed a 48-run victory over Thunder in the Northern Derby. Lauren Winfield-Hill’s stellar 89 was the key difference between the sides, with other Diamonds players failing to step up. Olivia Bell was the pick of the Thunder bowlers, finishing with 4/32. Hannah Jones, who has only recently returned from injury also impressed with 2/34. Fi Morris’ economical bowling was also a factor in restricting the visitors’ total.
In response to Diamonds being bowled out for 196, Thunder batted at a steady rate. Wickets were Thunder’s nemesis however as Phoebe Turner took 3/18 and Katie Levick performed as usual, registering figures of 4/28 from her 10 overs.
Sparks Reignited
Western Storm cemented their place at the bottom of the table after Sparks registered a 7-wicket victory. The Storm did not bat poorly with five batters reaching the 30s, ending 241/8.
However, the Storm were subjected to an Eve Jones masterclass who scored 84*. Maddy Green reached a half century while Abbey Freeborn just fell short of the milestone. Sophia Smale bowled well, taking 2/38 but the Sparks secured the win in the 45th over.
Now, only five points separate second place and sixth place which means next weekend’s final round of fixtures could not be more crucial. There are going to be some broken hearts and some elated cricketers on Saturday and it’s not determined who will end up qualifying.
