A guide to Trent Rocket’s 2023 Squad
Nat Sciver-Brunt – With endless accolades and number one rankings to her name, Nat Sciver-Brunt must be one of the most valuable all-rounders in women’s cricket. Scoring back-to-back centuries in the Ashes, you couldn’t ask for a more in-form player to be part of you side.
Katherine Sciver-Brunt – With Katherine Sciver-Brunt announcing her retirement from both international and domestic cricket, this will probably Sciver-Brunt’s last time playing top-level cricket. As a real servant to the women’s game, Sciver-Brunt will bow out with great respect from spectators and many young fast bowlers.
Alana King (overseas) – Leg spinning sensation, Alana King, has burst onto the international scene, recently featuring in the Ashes and against Ireland. It’s King’s second season with the Rockets, last year taking the first hat-trick of the women’s tournament.
Bryony Smith – Also retuning for another season, Bryony Smith will be hoping to once agin finish as the side’s leading wicket taker. Smith scored 118 runs last season but it was her bowling which was more prominent.
Harmanpreet Kaur (overseas) – Making headlines recently due to her behaviour surrounding what she considered to be a poor umpiring decision, Harmanpreet Kaur returns to the Hundred. The Indian skipper played for the Manchester Originals in 2021 but didn’t get picked up last summer. Kaur’s batting is a pleasure to watch, and she wracks up runs quickly.
Lizelle Lee (overseas) – A year on from her international retirement, Lizelle Lee has been a part of Hobart Hurricanes and Tasmania over in Australia but will be heading to play with the Trent Rockets in the English summer. She hits big and is powerful opening.
Grace Potts – Ever present for Central Sparks, Grace Potts has been regularly among the wickets. Potts make her tournament debut last year for the Manchester Originals but will now play for the Trent Rockets, offering pace and some swing.
Kirstie Gordon – Now captaining The Blaze, Kirstie Gordon has had an incredible season so far, taking bags of wickets. Gordon’s left-arm spin remains to be economical, and she’s been a part of England A squads this summer. Two successful years at Birmingham Phoenix have led to interest from Trent Rockets.
Josie Groves – Making a name for herself last summer in the domestic scene, Josie Groves picked up a professional contract and earned a place on the plane to South Africa for the U19 World Cup. Bowling alongside Alana King will be a great experience for the young leg spinner.
Cassidy McCarthy – Cassidy McCarthy has just made her senior debut for the Blaze but her talent has been spotted and she now has her first Hundred call up. Taking 2/17 on debut, batters still haven’t figured her out yet, giving her an edge.
Naomi Dattani – Swapping London Spirit for Trent Rockets, Naomi Dattani is playing better than ever, just falling short of a few half centuries and taking wickets every game. Her move to Thunder in domestic cricket has heavily paid off.
Alexa Stonehouse – Like many young cricketers, Alexa Stonehouse is reaping the benefits of professionalism. Stonehouse featured at the U19 World Cup, helping the team reach the final. Trent Rockets is a familiar setting as Stonehouse returns after spending last summer training with the team.
Jo Gardner – Trent Rockets will be Jo Gardner’s third team in the Hundred, previously featuring for the Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave. Gardner will be looking for some game time after spending last summer on the bench.
Fran Wilson – Former England international, Fran Wilson, is also joining her third team. With some good scores and plenty of runs so far this season, Wilson is well prepared heading into the Hundred. Wilson also has lots of experience, something which is so valuable.
Nat Wraith – It’s another team for Nat Wraith as the wicket-keeper joins the Trent Rockets. The 21-year-old hasn’t stood out this season but will probably be relied on behind the stumps.
